DJ Em and The XX Review

Archival Page for Old Show
WSUM, Madison Student Radion, 91.7 FM

yup, tha ladies know how to rockOnce upon a time, I had been fortunate enough to have landed a gig as a DJ for Madison, Wisconsin's Student Radio (WSUM 91.7FM). After extensive training, regular spankings, and a few kind-hearted threats that should I steal or burn anything down, I will be drawn and quartered, they gave me a weekly show. So, once I happily broadcast my brand of audio soul-pleasing elixer every Friday (first thing in the morning!) from 12AM until 2AM (hey, the songs got to have naughty words in them!). And what did I choose for the theme of my show? Well, Women in Music, of course! That means the group has to have at least one female member with a decent amount of influence on what goes on in the music. You might think that this limited what I could play, but on the contrary, there are thousands of women musicians out there who just don't get a lot of attention from out narrow little stream of music here in the USofA. I played music from every genre I could get my hands on: rock, folk, blues/jazz, electronic, punk, hip-hop or African, Australian, South American, Middle Eastern, Asian, etc.

That being said, if'n you ever find yourself within the Madison, WI radio listening area, be sure to tune into WSUM any ole time, because I've stepped down from my position as a weekly DJ (one is automatically retired upon graduation from college...it's a bit like "Logan's Run" really), but most of the other programs are fabulous, too. :)
